Women's Lacrosse Falls in Overtime at Concordia Wisconsin

MEQUON, Wis. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was defeated 16-15 in overtime at Concordia University Wisconsin on Thursday.

Each team held a one-goal lead in the first, but the score was tied 3-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Kalamazoo scored the first five goals in the second quarter to take an 8-3 lead. Concordia scored three of the last four goals in the quarter to trail 9-6 at halftime.

Concordia cut into the lead again slightly in the third, cutting the deficit to 11-9 at the end of three.

The Falcons scored the first three goals in the fourth to take their first lead (12-11) since the first quarter. Kalamazoo regained the lead and led by two (15-13) with 1:37 left in regulation. Concordia scored with 55 seconds left and 23 seconds left to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Concordia's first shot in overtime was saved, but the second shot was good, giving the Falcons the 16-15 win two minutes into overtime.

Concordia outshot Kalamazoo 42-30 overall, 34-22 on goal. The Hornets held a 19-16 advantage in draw controls but turned the ball over 36 times compared to 23 by Concordia.

Hannah Heeren led Kalamazoo with six goals, two assists and nine draw controls.

Ella Spooner scored six goals with one assist and four draw controls.

Abbie Caza scored twice. Eden Schnurstein had a goal and an assist. 

Jordan Flink was credited with 18 saves in goal.

Kalamazoo returns home to face Wooster on Sunday, April 2, at 12 p.m.
