Tessa Fuller and Hannah Heeren Earn MIAA Players of the Week Honors

Women's Lacrosse MIAA Players of the Week featuring Tessa Fuller and Hannah Heeren.

Tessa Fuller and Hannah Heeren of the Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team were selected as the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week on Monday (Apr. 8). Fuller grabbed an Offensive Player of the Week selection, while Heeren was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week. This is the second time in Fuller's first season that she has been chosen as an Offensive Player of the Week, and this is the fifth Defensive Player of the Week honor for Heeren, with three coming this season.

Kalamazoo began MIAA play with a road game at Alma on Apr. 6. The Hornets gained their sixth consecutive win after defeating the Scots 17-11.

Fuller totaled the most points for the Hornets with four goals and four assists while adding three ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover. The four assists are tied for the seventh most in a game in program history. Fuller set a new single-season program record by surpassing Mackenzie Maiorano (21) with 23 assists this season. She already set the single-game record with eight against Aquinas on Mar. 6 and also has the second-place spot with six against North Central on Feb. 16. In her first collegiate season, Fuller leads the team with 44 points and 23 assists while adding 21 goals, 15 ground balls, five caused turnovers, and two draw controls in seven games.

Even though she was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week, Heeren led the Hornets with seven goals against Alma and added an assist for eight points. She collected 16 draw controls, the fifth most in a game in program history, three ground balls, and a caused turnover. Heeren has her name all over the record book by collecting the second most goals (197), assists (47), points (244), and draw controls (244) all-time behind Rachel Madar (goals, points, and draw controls) and Amanda Moss (assists). In her senior season, Heeren leads the Hornets with 76 draw controls, 25 ground balls, and 18 caused turnovers, adding 31 goals and 11 assists for 42 points.

The Hornets continue conference play with a road game at Alma on Wednesday (Apr. 10) and a home game against Hope on Saturday (Apr. 13).
