Elana Mitchell of the Kalamazoo College women's soccer team was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday (Oct. 16). This is the first time the sophomore has earned the honor.
Kalamazoo continued its MIAA schedule with two home games against Trine on Oct. 10 and Saint Mary's on Oct. 14. The Hornets won their second and third games in a row after defeating the Thunder 2-0 and the Belles 1-0.
Mitchell collected seven saves in two games, with three coming against Trine and four against Saint Mary's. She fended off four corner kick attempts and has now gone 285 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. On the season, Mitchell has started all 14 games in the net for Kalamazoo and has 61 saves with a 1.36 goals-against average, a .762 save percentage, and six shutouts.
The Hornets will finish the regular season and conference play with a road game at Calvin on Wednesday (Oct. 18) and a home game against Adrian on Saturday (Oct. 21).
