KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team hosted Trine in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Saturday (Oct. 28). After the game seemed to be heading into overtime, the Thunder scored with three seconds left to defeat the Hornets 1-0.
The Izzy Kastel was reinserted into the starting lineup with Elana Mitchell, Maddie Coffman, Olivia DePauli, Savera Rajendra-Nicolucci, Anna Murphy, Holly Bowling, Ruby Hogan, Erin Somsel, Destiny Garcia, and Amalia Scorsone.
Trine controlled possession for most of the first half but only got one shot off compared to Kalamazoo's three. The Hornets flipped the script in the second half, outshooting the Thunder 10-3. However, Trine came down on a counterattack and scored with three seconds left to win the first round game 1-0.
Mitchell made two saves on three opportunities. Kalamazoo totaled more shots (13-4) and corner kicks (7-0), while Trine totaled more saves (4-3) and fouls (14-9).
Kalamazoo finished the season 8-6-3 while finishing conference play 5-2-1.
