KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team lost its season opener 9-0 to No. 8 University of Chicago on Friday inside the Markin Center.
The visiting Maroons, also the top-ranked team in the region, swept the three doubles points before winning the six singles matches in straight sets.
Sophie Zhuang and Ella Knight won two games in an 8-2 loss at two doubles. Laura Hanselman/Helen Pelak and Meghan Killmaster/Bella Russo lost 8-1 at one and three doubles, respectively.
Hanselman won two games in the second set at one singles while Zhuang won a game in the first set at four singles.
Kalamazoo returns to action at home on Sunday, Feb. 16 with a 9 a.m. match against Case Western Reserve University.
