Charlotte Ruiter of the Kalamazoo College volleyball team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Wednesday (Sept. 6).
The Hornets played four neutral site matches on Sept. 1-2 at the SMW Invite and went 2-2. Kalamazoo had two 3-0 losses to Midway and Saint Mary of the Woods and two 3-0 wins over Alice Lloyd and Brescia.
Ruiter was the primary offensive weapon for Kalamazoo this past weekend as she was selected to the SMW Invite All-Tournament Team. After playing in all 12 sets, she finished with a team-high 29 kills, three blocks, and 31.5 points. Ruiter had 2.42 kills per set on a .235 attacking percentage, adding three digs and two assists. In the match against Alice Lloyd, she totaled 10 of her 29 kills.
The junior has played in 43 matches in her career at Kalamazoo, totaling 174 kills, 52 blocks, 204.5 points, and 33 digs. In 2022, Ruiter led the team with 34 blocks and was second with 104 kills. She is also a two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll member.
Kalamazoo will play three matches in the NCAC Crossover in Greencastle, Ind., against Hiram and DePauw on Friday (Sept. 8) and Rose-Hulman on Saturday (Sept. 9).
