Lizzy Rachiele of the Kalamazoo College volleyball team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 26).
The Hornets played two road matches in Ohio this past week against Oberlin on Sept. 21 and Defiance on Sept. 23. Kalamazoo fell to Yeowomen 3-0 before defeating the Yellow Jackets 3-0.
As the team's libero, Rachiele totaled 23 digs and 11 receptions in the two matches this past week. That included 17 against Defiance, a career-high in a three-set match for Rachiele. On the season, Rachiele has already totaled 237 receptions and 165 digs in 12 matches. She has also collected 33 assists, 12 aces, and a kill in 42 sets of play.
A junior from Novi. Mich., Rachiele has played in 52 matches with 938 receptions, 569 digs, 96 assists, 47 aces, and eight kills. She led the team in kills during her first season and was third last year. Rachiele is also a two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll member.
Kalamazoo will begin conference play with a home match against Saint Mary's on Tuesday (Sept. 26) and a road match at Hope on Friday (Sept. 29).
