LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Kalamazoo College women's cross country team ran impressive race after having several members of the team not at 100 percent. The women's team was without #5 runner Aliza Garcia but still placed a fantastic 14th place out of the 41 Division 3 teams in the race. The Hornet women were the sixth place Great Lakes Region team in the meet standings. This should help with consideration for the USTFCCCA Regional rankings coming out this Tuesday.

Led by Senior Rachael Gallap who was coming back from an illness, Rachael placed a strong 28th in a deep and talented field from across the country. Anna Varitek built through the race and was 54th. First years Paige Anderson and Alison Hankins were again a solid 3-4 in 73rd and 109th respectively. Annalise Bailey stepped up huge field with a 42 second lifetime best to round out Hornet scoring.

Hannah Schurman and Grace McGlynn also competed for the Hornets and placed 190th and 201st in the field.

Coach's Comments

"The women came out of a week that created some uncertainty on who would be competing in today's race. Then the heat soared and added another layer of nerves to a national level meet. The women responded with poise and resilience. We ran very tough today and it was a big step forward for the program. The women were 30th here two years ago and the work we've done since then is starting to pay off. Very proud of this group. Still six weeks left in the season and I think we will continue to exceed expectations."
