The Kalamazoo College baseball team was featured in the department's ninth edition of the summer's Top Moment Thursday from the 2022-23 season.
Kalamazoo jumped out to a six-run lead with a run in the second and six more runs in the third with RBI singles by Cam Kelly, Ryar Rinehart, and Tanner Hawkins, Logan Lockhart being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and a bases clearing double by Kelly. Hope responded with 12 straight runs to take a 13-7 lead after the sixth inning. The Hornets had an even bigger inning in the eighth with seven runs thanks to a David Stechow bases-loaded walk, a Rinehart RBI single, Lockhart being hit by another pitch with the bases loaded, and a grand slam by Robert Newland to take the lead. After the Flying Dutchmen tied the game in the ninth to force extra innings, Cooper Mills scored on a wild pitch in the 11th for the eventual game-winning run.
