Football Comes Up Short Against Olivet

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 30-20 to Olivet College at Angell Field on Saturday. 

The Comets scored on their first possession and led 9-0 after the first quarter.

Kalamazoo got on the board six minutes into the second quarter when Jared Pittman broke free for a 52-yard touchdown run making it a 9-7 game.

Olivet responded with a touchdown drive and quickly scored again on an interception return to take a 23-7 lead. The Comets ended the half with another score to take a 30-7 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo kept fighting back, however, as Bubba Wilson scored on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Cam Crothers early in the third quarter.

Pittman scored on a 21-yard touchdown reception from Crothers with 5:38 left in the fourth quarter making it 30-20. The Hornets had one more possession but were unable to score again.

Olivet accumulated 349 yards of total offense compared to 295 for Kalamazoo.

Cam Crothers was 18-of-31 passing for 193 yards with two touchdowns.

Bubba Wilson led the Hornet receivers with nine catches for 108 yards and a score. 

Jared Pittman rushed for 57 yards with a touchdown while catching four passes for 37 yards with a touchdown.

Jacob Chantres led the Hornet defense with 12 tackles. Jake Sypniewski, Jake Osen, Taylor Jackson, and Dakota Walbeck each had 10 tackles. 

Chantres, Walbeck, Alex Stockwell, Noah Coplan, and Josh Martin were each in on sacks. DeShawn Moore had an interception.

Kalamazoo is home again next Saturday, Nov. 9 as the Hornets take on Hope at 1 p.m.
