KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth contest Wednesday evening against Hope that ended 75-61.

The Hornets and Flying Dutchmen played a close first half that featured three lead changes while neither team led by more than nine points. Kalamazoo held Hope to just a 30 percent clip from the field throughout the half while only allowing three of 13 three-pointers. The 29-24 halftime lead was sparked by senior Tre Humes' 16 points which included four first-half three-pointers.

Kalamazoo fought tough in the second half as Hope found itself up by as many as 10 with under eight minutes left, but the Hornets worked the deficit down to four with less than three minutes left. The comeback effort fell just short as Hope connected on 11 of 13 free throws in the second half to win the game.

The Hornets made 21 of their 68 field goal attempts and eight of 31 three-point tries. The defense forced 16 Hope turnovers.

Tre Humes led the team on the offensive end with 18 points while Ben Reiter added 15.

Tanner Blyly posted 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

Merritt Hamann collected a team-high nine rebounds.

Kalamazoo returns to play on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Calvin University. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
