Josh Decker of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was selected as the MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday (Feb. 13). This is the first time in his career that Decker has collected player of the week honors.

The basketball team went 1-1 last week by earning an MIAA road victory at Olivet (Feb. 8) and falling to Adrian (Feb. 11). The Hornets defeated the Comets on the road 66-65 for their second straight win before dropping their final home contest of the season to the Bulldogs 76-67.

Decker averaged 25.5 points per game in two contests last week while shooting 46.9% (15-32) from the field. In 33.0 minutes per game, Decker also shot 45.8% (11-24) from behind the arc and 83.3% (10-12) from the free throw line. He had the best game of his career to date in the win over Olivet by scoring a career-high 28 points and tying a single-game Hornet record of seven three-pointers. To top it off, Decker hit the game-winning three with just over a second left to give Kalamazoo the one-point win. He also scored 23 points against Adrian, making that the fourth time in the last five games he scored 20 points or more.

On the season, Decker leads the Hornets with 14.7 points per game while shooting 44.1 percent overall and 42.2 percent from behind the arc. He also averages 2.8 rebounds and just under a steal and assist per game. For his career, Decker has been a 40.9% three-point shooter and 82.8% free throw shooter, averaging 12.2 points per game.

Kalamazoo will continue MIAA play with a road game at Trine on Wednesday (Feb. 15), beginning at 7 p.m.
