Omness Named GCAA All-America Scholar

Tyler Omness was named an All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America this week.

To be eligible for All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA, and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

A sophomore from Shelbyville, Mich. (Wayland HS), Omness led the Hornets with a 76.9 average this past season. He shot a season-best 72 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational and has a career average of 77.2 after two seasons.

Omness is the sixth different Hornet golfer to be recognized with this award since 2016-17. Three players earned it twice.

Kalamazoo finished fifth in MIAA play this past season with a 328.3 league average. The Hornets averaged 325.1 in all matches.
