Men's Lacrosse Falls at Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team lost 16-12 at Washington & Jefferson University on Wednesday. It was the first loss of the season for the Hornets (4-1).

Kalamazoo scored the first goal of the contest in the first 16 seconds and led 2-1 after two minutes. The score was tied 3-3 at the 6:37 mark of the first quarter before the Presidents scored four straight to lead 7-3 at the end of the quarter.

Washington & Jefferson scored the first four goals of the second quarter to go up 11-3 before Kalamazoo got on the board again with 3:55 left in the half. Each team scored again in the closing minutes with the Presidents taking a 12-5 lead into halftime.

The two teams traded goals in the third quarter with the Presidents still holding a 14-7 lead heading into the fourth.

Washington & Jefferson took a 15-7 lead early in the fourth before four straight Kalamazoo goals made it a 15-11 game with 6:10 left. The Presidents were able to slow down Kalamazoo's offense and scored again at 3:57 to make it 16-11. Kalamazoo scored one final goal with 1:01 remaining as the Hornets were unable to complete the comeback.

Dylan McGorisk led Kalamazoo with five goals.

Zach Morales and Jack Loveland each had two assists.

Joe Edwards led the team with six ground balls while Jake Bonifacio and Jake Nugent each had five.

Kalamazoo returns to action Saturday at Misericordia University at 1 p.m.
