HOLLAND, Mich. – More often than not this season Kalamazoo College's Cal Kirchen has found himself in the headlines for the men's soccer team. Tuesday night was no different.

After opening the scoring in the fourth minute of play for the Hornets in their 3-2 win over Hope College, Kirchen closed out the scoring in the match providing the game winning goal as well.

The Flying Dutchman, a group battling for the fourth spot in the MIAA conference tournament, carried a 2-1 lead with them into halftime, but the Hornets, currently second in the MIAA, responded well right away in the second 45 minutes of play.

Jacob Waier leveled the score at 2-2 just five minute into the second half in the 50th minute. The goal was Waier's first of the season.

Kirchen's game-winning goal came in the 73rd minute and was unassisted. It was Kirchen's fourth game-winning goal of the season and his 13th of the season overall. He's scored nine goals in his past five games and is the MIAA's leading goal scorer.

With the win, Kalamazoo improves to 9-2 in the MIAA. The Hornets will head home this weekend for a homecoming match up with the visiting side from Alma College. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
