CHICAGO, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team finished its road stretch with a trip to #6 Chicago on Saturday (Sept. 23). The Hornets played evenly with the Maroons through the first half, but UC scored two goals in the second to defeat K 2-0.
Kalamazoo rolled out the starting lineup with Gavin Houtkooper, Colin Halloran, Aidan Gillig, Michele Alia, Paul Kearis, Henry Plumstead, Emilio Romo, Chad Ewing, Jeremiah Heath, Antoine Kondracki, and Jake Lynett for the third straight game.
The first half belonged to Chicago as the Maroons outshot the Hornets 8-3 and had four corner kicks compared to Kalamazoo not recording one. However, the half resulted in a scoreless tie. The second half was played more evenly as Chicago took seven shots compared to Kalamazoo's six. Unfortunately, the Maroons saw two shots hit the back of the net in the 51st and 82nd minutes to take the 2-0 win.
Houtkooper finished with four saves on six attempts. The Maroons held advantages in shots (15-9) and corner kicks (10-0), while the Hornets had more fouls (8-7), and both teams had four saves each.
Kalamazoo will return to MacKenzie Field to face North Central on Saturday (Sept. 30), beginning at 6 p.m.
