ALBION, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team traveled to Albion to finish the regular season and MIAA play on Wednesday (Oct. 25). The Hornets scored the game's first goal in the first 20 minutes, but then the Britons followed with three goals in the second half to win 3-1.
Kalamazoo reinserted Junior Matuza into the starting lineup with Gavin Houtkooper, Shun Yonehara, Aidan Gillig, Paul Kearis, Luke Bormann, Henry Plumstead, Emilio Romo, Chad Ewing, Lucas Ruiz, and Jeremiah Heath.
The Hornets got on the board first in the opening half as Ruiz put away his first career goal in the 18th minute. Kalamazoo kept the pressure on for the rest of the half, outshooting Albion 6-2, but none of those shots resulted in a goal. After going into halftime up 1-0, the Hornets allowed three quick goals in the second half, with two coming in the 63rd minute and the third coming in the 66th minute. This allowed the Britons to fall back into a defensive game and preserve the 3-1 win.
Alex Kish entered the game early in the first half and made one save on four opportunities. The Hornets had more shots (19-9) and corner kicks (8-4), while the Britons had more saves (8-2) and fouls (14-12).
Kalamazoo will now wait to see its seed and who the opponent will be in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.
