The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team had one player selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday (Nov. 21). The student-athletes selected was Gavin Houtkooper.

To be selected for the award, the student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, have played at least 90% or start in 66% of their team's competitions, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Houtkooper started in all 18 games as the goalkeeper for the Hornets in his junior season. He has a season-high 54 saves with a 1.65 goals-against average, a .659 save percentage, and two shutouts. After being the primary starter in net the past three seasons, Houtkooper is sixth all-time for career saves (141) and GAA (1.22) while being seventh in shutouts (11) at Kalamazoo. Majoring in business and a cumulative GPA of 3.96, this is his second time being selected to the all-district team.

Now that Houtlkooper has made the district team, he will move on to the CSC Academic All-American ballot, which will be announced in early December.
