Women's Basketball Falls to #6 Hope

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 86-55 by No. 6 Hope College at home on Wednesday. 

Hope scored the first nine points of the game and led 21-4 at the end of the first quarter. Hope outscored Kalamazoo 18-16 in the second quarter to take a 39-20 lead into halftime.

The Hornets used a 10-0 run in the middle of the third to cut the deficit to 12 (50-38), but a 9-0 run by Hope put the Flying Dutch on top 59-38 at the end of the quarter. Hope outscored Kalamazoo 27-17 in the fourth leading to the 86-55 final.

Hope shot 39 percent from the field while holding Kalamazoo to 30 percent overall. Hope mae 18-of-24 free throws compared to 14-of-19 by Kalamazoo. Hope outrebounded Kalamazoo 49-39, including 22-13 on the offensive end.

Jordan Wesaw led Kalamazoo with 14 points, eight rebounds, five blocks, three steals and two assists.

Ruby Hogan scored 14 points with five rebounds and two assists.

Kaelyn Arlington finished with eight points and five rebounds. Sara English scored seven points with two rebounds and two steals. Jackie Brines scored six points with a career-high 12 rebounds.

Kalamazoo heads to Calvin next on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m.
