Sophie Zhuang of the Kalamazoo College women's tennis team was selected as the MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday (Mar. 20). This is the second time in her career that the senior has collected player of the week honors after also earning it her sophomore season.

The women's tennis team played three matches this past week, including a road MIAA match against Albion (Mar. 15) and neutral non-conference matches against Marywood (Mar. 17) and Salisbury (Mar. 19) in Orlando, Fla. The Hornets finished the week 3-0 to extend their winning streak to four in a row with wins over the Britons (9-0), Pacers (9-0), and Sea Gulls (5-4).

Zhuang went 6-0 this past week with three wins with her doubles partner, Renee Torres, in the #1 spot and three wins in #2 singles matches. Zhuang and Torres won their doubles matches 8-1 over Albion, 8-2 over Marywood, and 8-2 over Salisbury. Zhuang was just as dominant in her singles matches, defeating Albion and Marywood 6-0, 6-0 and Salisbury 6-4, 6-1. She has now won four straight singles and doubles matches, with two coming during conference play.

In her career, Zhuang is 27-23 (15-1 MIAA) in singles matches and 26-29 (12-4 MIAA) in doubles matches. The senior has worked up from playing #3/4 singles and #2 doubles her first year to #2 singles and #1 doubles this season. Zhuang is a two-time All-MIAA Second Team and MIAA Academic Honor Roll member.

Kalamazoo will play three road matches this week at #8 Emory on Monday (Mar. 20), Covenant on Wednesday (Mar. 22), and Sewanee on Thursday (Mar. 23).
