Meghan Killmaster of the Kalamazoo College women's tennis team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Wednesday (Mar. 29).
The women's tennis team played three more matches to finish spring break against Huntingdon and Trinity (Mar. 21) in Florida before returning to take on Calvin (Mar. 25). Kalamazoo went 2-1 in the three matches, defeating the Hawks 9-0 and the Knight 6-3 while falling to the Bantams 6-3.
Killmaster went 4-1 this past week by going 2-0 with her doubles partner Maddie Hurley and 2-1 in singles matches. Killmaster and Hurley won both #2 doubles matches, defeating Trinity 8-6 and Calvin 8-4. To finish the spring break trip in Florida, Killmaster picked up a #1 singles win over Huntingdon 6-1, 6-2 before falling in the #3 singles match to Trinity 1-6, 3-6. The team then returned to MIAA play against Calvin, where Killmaster played a crucial role. With the match tied 4-4, Killmaster won a very exciting #3 singles match 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 to give the Hornets the victory.
In her career, Killmaster is 18-20 (8-2 MIAA) in singles matches and 32-22 (17-0 MIAA) in doubles matches. The senior had primarily played #5/6 singles and #2/3 doubles throughout her career but has stepped into the #3 singles role this season. Killmaster is a one-time MIAA Player of the Week and a three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll member.
Kalamazoo will have an MIAA match at Adrian on Wednesday (Mar. 29), travel to Wheaton for a non-conference match on Saturday (Apr. 1), and then host Saint Mary's on Sunday (Apr. 2) for another conference match.
