Women's Tennis Defeats Hope

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team improved to 6-0 in the MIAA with a 5-4 win over Hope College on Saturday. Hope dropped just its first MIAA match of the season (11-6, 6-1 MIAA). This was the first win over the Flying Dutch since 2014, and the Hornets are now in first place in the MIAA

Hope took all three doubles matches over Kalamazoo, but the Hornets completed the comeback win by taking five of the six singles matches.

Renee Torres and Sophie Zhuang won in straight sets at one and two. Torres took her match 6-0, 6-3, and Zhuang fended off her opponent 7-5, 6-2.

Maddie Hurley and Eleni Bougioukou also took four and five in straight sets, with Hurley winning 6-1, 6-1 and Bougioukou winning 6-4, 6-4.

Ivy Walker clinched the match win for the Hornets with an exciting victory at six. Walker won both sets 7-6, taking the tiebreakers 7-3, 7-5.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to conclude its regular season at Trine on Saturday, April 22, at 1 p.m. with an opportunity to clinch the MIAA regular season title.
