Eleni Bougioukou of the Kalamazoo College women's tennis team was selected as the MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday (Mar. 18). This is the first time the sophomore has earned the conference honor.
Kalamazoo began conference play with a home match against Albion. The Hornets returned to their winning ways with a 9-0 win over the Britons.
Bougioukou competed in the #3 doubles and singles spots against Albion. First, she teamed up with Molly Stevison to easily win the doubles match 8-0. Then, Bougioukou clinched the match victory for the Hornets by winning her singles match 6-1, 6-2. This was Bougioukou's first dual win in the spring after going 4-2 in tournament play during the fall season. She is now 4-4 in doubles matches, including 2-1 with Stevison, 1-1 with Soussana Kimbouris, and 1-2 with Olivia Wolfe. Bougioukou has a 15-12 (7-1 MIAA) singles record and a 4-6 (1-0 MIAA) doubles record in her second collegiate tennis season.
The Hornets will continue their season with a trip to Florida over spring break, featuring matches against Union, DePauw, and Whitworth from Mar. 22-27.
