KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team got back to its winning ways with a non-conference doubleheader sweep over Manchester on Thursday, 6-5 and 6-3.

Game One

Three errors by Manchester were key in helping Kalamazoo take a 3-0 lead in the first inning, as well as an RBI single. Both teams scored a run in the second as the Hornets maintained their three-run lead. However, three runs on three hits and two errors in the fourth helped the Spartans tie the game up. Kalamazoo came right back to regain a one-run lead in the fourth and then scored an insurance run in the fifth. Manchester cut the deficit to one in the sixth, but the Hornets were able to hang on for the win.

Manchester outhit Kalamazoo 9-5 in the game, but the Spartans made six errors that led to four unearned runs. The Hornets committed three errors for two unearned runs and left four runners on base.

Bella Caza was the lone Hornet with a multi-hit game by going 2-3. Caza, Lizzy Rottenberk, Lucy Hart, Brynna Garden, and Emma Newlove all collected an RBI, while Newlove and Amy McNutt had the two extra-base hits with doubles.

Sam Moss improved to 8-5 in the circle by allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts in a complete game.

Game Two

After Manchester scored three runs on two hits, a walk, and a wild pitch, Kalamazoo plated one in the second and had a big inning in the fifth. The Hornets scored five runs to take a three-run lead on five hits, three walks, and an error.

Kalamazoo outhit Manchester 8-6, and the Spartans made the game's lone error.

Lucy Hart and Sam Moss went 2-3 with a run and an RBI. Brynna Garden, Emma Newlove, and Amy McNutt also had an RBI each, with Newlove doubling and McNutt driving a home run out of the ballpark for the extra-base hits.

After allowing three runs in the first, Jordan Cook (6-7) shut out the Spartans the rest of the way. She gave up six hits and walked one, with three strikeouts in the complete game.
