Women's basketball victorious over Alma at home

Hannah Maness playing basketball.

KALAMAZOO, MI – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated Alma 68-51 on Wednesday night. It was the school's fourth straight win as the women now sit with an overall record of 13-7 and a conference record of 8-4.

It was a career night for Hornet senior captain Hannah Maness. She scored a career-high 18 points to lead the team. The theme of her night was threes as she hit five from beyond the arc and scored on a three point play at the basket.

The Hornets got off to a slow start as Alma jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Kalamazoo quickly got it together and took its first lead on a Querubin Dubois jumper eleven minutes later. Claire Slaughter gave the team really valuable minutes in the first half scoring six points. The Hornets went into the half with a 29-20 lead.

In the second half Hannah Maness hit four three pointers to pretty much blow the game wide open. The Hornets held around a twenty point lead for the remainder of the game. The whole Hornet team played outstanding defense, forcing the Scots into 22 turnovers and just 29 percent shooting. The defensive effort was headed by Perri Nicholson who had four blocks and three steals to go along with her eight points and six rebounds. Kelsey Adamski and Emily Lindsay both passed the ball really well and had five assists each. Adamski also led the team in rebounds with seven.

Kalamazoo had great production off its bench tonight, with the second unit combining for 21 points. Danielle Simon led all bench scorers with seven, on a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor. Claire Slaughter added six points and Querubin Dubois had four points, three boards, two assists, and two steals.

Kalamazoo's next game is Saturday, Feb. 7 at Saint Mary's (Ind.).
