Women's Lacrosse Defeats North Central

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A big fourth quarter lifted Kalamazoo College to a 15-11 win over North Central College on Saturday at MacKenzie Field.

In a game with multiple lead changes and scoring runs, the score was tied 2-2 after the first quarter. North Central pulled ahead 4-2 midway through the second quarter before three straight goals by Kalamazoo gave the Hornets a 5-4 halftime lead.

The visiting Cardinals scored three straight to open the third for a 7-5 advantage. Kalamazoo responded with three straight to regain the lead, 8-7. North Central followed suit with three straight to close out the quarter with a 10-8 lead.

Kalamazoo scored five goals in the first four minutes and 15 seconds of the fourth quarter to take a 13-10 lead. North Central scored its final goal with 10:08 remaining. Kalamazoo scored twice more leading to the 15-11 final.

Kalamazoo outshot North Central 35-24 overall, 26-19 on goal. Kalamazoo won 19 of the 29 draws.

Ella Spooner led the Hornets offensively with five goals, one assist and six draw controls.

Natalie Maki scored three goals. Jordan Doyle added two.

Hannah Heeren also scored two goals with nine draw controls.

Tessa Fuller was credited with six assists. Julia Kozal also had a goal and an assist. Lily Grelak also had an assist. 

Eden Schnurstein and Sophie Hartl each scored a goal. Hartl led the team with three ground balls.

Jordan Flink recorded eight saves in goal.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to be back in action Tuesday, April 2, at Wooster.
