KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The 2021 Kalamazoo College volleyball team is set to begin its season on Friday, March 19 when it travels to Albion College. The Hornets resume play for the first time since fall 2019 after last fall's season was postponed due to covid restrictions. This year's team features three newcomers and eight returning players.

Key Dates

  • The Hornets will open their season on Friday, March 19 at Albion.

  • The team then hosts three straight home games heading into the month of April. The play Trine at home on Mach 24, Adrian on March 31, and Hope on March 2.

  • After a road game at Olivet on April 7, the Hornets host Calvin on April 9.

  • The MIAA Tournament will begin Tuesday, April 20, and concludes Saturday, April 24.

Returning Statistical Leaders

  • Senior middle hitter Madi Goodman returns for her senior season after leading the team in kills (351) and blocks (57) in 2019.

  • Taylor Ferguson is back as the team's starting libero. She led the Hornets with 481 digs and 52 service aces last season.

  • Lindsey Nedd will return after a successful freshman campaign in which she was second on the team in kills (200) and blocks (46) in the outside hitter spot.

Head Coach Cindy Cavanagh

Coach Cavanagh is back for her second season in charge of the Hornet volleyball team. Cavanagh comes to Kalamazoo from Finlandia University where she was the Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director for Student Development. In her lone season with the Lions, she led the team to the American Collegiate Athletic Association championship match.

Quoting Coach Cavanagh

"With such a short competition season, our goal is to compete as a team in every match and appreciate the opportunity to take the court together, especially for our seniors. Due to our small roster size, we have focused a lot on controlling the controllable and taking care of our bodies both physically and mentally. All but first-year Rorie Dougherty will be returners to our starting line-up."
